My husband and one of his friends took on the major task of planning a beautiful Tuscan vacation. I must say they planned a phenomenal trip. We (and two married couples) spent ten days in a villa in Tuscany overlooking a vineyard and spent our days, visiting Florence, Pisa, drinking wine, and dipping in the pool.
If you are thinking of visiting Italy, you will be bombarded with so many suggestions. Yes, you must eat handmade pasta, Italian bread, wine, and cheese but there
Here is my list of the top 5 things to do in Italy.
Buy a leather Jacket
Italy is the home of fashion and every corner has a leather shop. I love leather goods but they have to be made with high-quality leather so Italy was a dream come true. There were little leather bags, jackets, and homeware. My husband finally purchased the leather jacket of his dreams. We have been looking for a navy blue motorcycle-style jacket and he found one in Florence. I was so happy for him. I saw leather jackets and purses that I liked but couldn’t take the leap as I was planning on splurging at the luxury outlet malls.
Luxury Outlets
Wow. I have never seen a luxury outlet mall like this in all of my years of being a fashion lover. This outlet mall focussed primarily on luxury brands such as Gucci, Givenchy, Versace, and my favorite Fendi. The outlet mall is called “The Mall” and has dozens of luxury designer brands. I picked up a few things from Prada for more than 80% off. Make sure you have your walking shoes on and your passport to save on taxes. There is a lot of parking available but make sure you bring your water with you because there aren’t many cafes or restaurants.
Visit Florence
Florence was a dream. Roaming the tiny streets while taking in the sounds of the street musicians was so romantic. Every street is Instagrammable and there is a gelato shop on
Leaning Tower of Pisa
Ironically the day we went to visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa, it was not leaning. Joking. My only suggestion would be to go super early because there are crowds of people trying to get the perfect illusion photo with the leaning tower of Pisa. Taking photos is completely free but I believe it costs to go to the top of the tower.
Winery Tour
Our Tuscan villa was surrounded by sprawling vineyards and wineries. It is super hard to choose just one to visit. We decided to visit a popular winery and then a smaller family-owned winery. We wanted to compare the two and they were both pretty much the same. The large winery was Antinori and the smaller one was Poggio al Bosco. Honestly, they were both the same but I loved Poggio Al Bosco because we got to learn all about the family who owned the winery. Both wineries had wine, cheese, and olive oil. Ha!
