Adrienne Landau Fall/ Winter 2017 Show

With all of the social tension around me, I did feel a bit guilty attending NYFW. Though fashion is an art, it felt like all the hoopla of the shows dimmed in comparision to the pain that many are feeling in America and in the world.

I stepped into the Adrienne Landau presentation during NYFW and the guilt went away. “Landauland” was a celebration of Adrienne Landau’s 40 year anniversary and it was a party. Beyonce, Madonna, Taraji P. Henson  and Lady Gaga are just a few of the major first class celebs who have worn Adrienne Landau designs. Known for fur and elaborate coats, on Valentine’s Day the Adrienne Landau presentation focused on love, unity and freedom of expression.

The presentation was comprised of 7 installations with adult and children models wearing coats and clothing by Adrienne Landau. Imagine over 30 giant blow up bananas, a bride and groom on a horse, a rave party and fur clad children playing with large building blocks… to name a few.

I was drawn to the enclosed glass display entitled “ Warriors”. Five models stood donned in colourful and detailed Trinidad Carnival type garb but draped in purple, blue, green, yellow and red fluffy Adrienne Landau coats. It reminded me of back home in the Caribbean. The models danced and showed the movement of each coat.

While I walked around I was served chocolate lips wrapped in red foil. It was Valentines Day and the fashion got me into the chocolate mood.

“ Adrienne Landau put colour and luxe at the forefront of her collection. From plush stoles to brocade motor jackets, the pieces presented grooved with the social message of freedom of expression.

The vibrancy of colour paired with parkas, vests and sweatpants reintroduced the appeal of streetwear design made in luxury fabrics.  Each installation of the presentation was meaningful not only because of the beauty of the pieces but the beauty of the message.“–Aquila on Adrienne Landau Fall/Winter 2017
