Ankara Inspiration

Filed in: Fashion

This is my first post on my new blog and it feels good. I feel refreshed and think the blog reflects everything that makes me, me. Most of all, WE get to connect.

Here comes my first outfit post…

This outfit was featured on my old blog but in honour of the old blog, I am wearing it again styled slightly differently.

Ankara is a colourful wax printed fabric made of 100% cotton. Sometimes it is refer to it as “ African print” but the preferred  name is Ankara.  Ankara fabric is not only colourful and beautiful, it can easily be moulded to design all types of clothing. It can be gathered to make a full skirt, pleated to be added to a jacket or even cut on the bias to make a ball gown.

To create this outfit, I wanted something simple to really place emphasis on the Ankara fabric.  While casually strolling through the fabric store, this Ankara print immediately caught my attention. The gold foil embossing added a regal glow to the simple two piece design. It was almost like the fabric was reflecting the happiness that I was feeling.

Though I love the flow and feel of a dress, two piece outfits flatter my figure and are easy breezy for the summer. I packed this set for my trip to Nevis and as usual, it was not worn. Sigh. Sometimes my trips only include the beach and pina coladas, so I hardly have time to dress up.
Nevis was a beach trip, so no fancy outfits.

This did not stop me from wearing it when I returned home to Toronto. Since February, my Ankara skirt set has been my go to outfit for dinner with my friends or heading to an evening service at church, paired with a blazer.

My So Kate royal purple Christian Louboutins were a good compliment to the purple in the fabric along with an orange laser cut cross body clutch from Queta Accessories.

Lots more Ankara inspired outfits to come.  You know I love colour.

This is beautiful Aquila! Ok, like I seriously need to commission you for my very own Ankara 2 piece. I’m thinking baby blue. It’s my current inspo for a “capsule wardrobe” I’m building. And c’mon the blazer with pop of hot pink? I can rock that! So chic and fashionable but definitely not what everyone is wearing right now. Great way to look on trend and timeless, without looking the same. I need to connect with you asap. 🙂
