So If you came to this post because of my question on Instagram you may have guessed right or wrong. My look today is inspired by the late, great fashion visionary and photographer Bill Cunningham.
I am not even going to attempt to write the history of Bill Cunningham and the reason why the fashion world is mourning his death but I would suggest that you if you do not know who he is google his name or watch his movie. A few months ago, I had no idea who he was. But then I stumbled upon his movie while doing some deep research into the world of blogging and bloggers. After watching the movie, I was convinced that Bill Cunningham is one of the top 10 people who were influential in the development of the concept of blogging. It all began with him and his love for fashion watching. He would ride around the streets of New York on a bike, in the winter or summer and snaps photos of fashionable New Yorkers. He would then published the photos in curated fashion spreads in the New York times. |
What really blew me away in the movie was now dedicated and committed he was to his craft. He was also very adamant about using traditional methods of developing photos. His attention to detail, precision and process is second to none. He truly inspired me to push the envelope in fashion and to be thorough in all that I do when it comes to my blog and personal brand.
After watching his movie, I was determined to be photographed by Bill Cunningham.
Now that he has passed, I decided to style this look in his honour.
Bill always wore a blue smock jacket when taking photos. So put on this dress I made 4 years ago for my engagement party. Bill also wore khaki or grey pants at times. I decided to wear my silver So Kates to add a fashionable twist to his pants. And of course he always had a camera in his hand. I chose my vintage black clutch as a symbol of his classic black camera.
