Dark and Lovely Au Naturale Anti-Shrinkage Clumping Curl Collection

Filed in: Uncategorized

 Dark and Lovely Clumping Curl Clay Cleanser

 I’m every woman, Dark and Lovely…. * in the tune of I’m very woman by  Whitney Houston and Chaka Khan

Demetria from Real Housewives of Atlanta, sang this line to a group of beautiful and smart women of colour. It was the celebration of Black Beauty brand, Dark and Lovely’s 45th anniversary. The room was filled with beauty bloggers, influencers, beauty executives and then there was me. I was visiting from out of town during NYFW and was a guest to beauty editor Jenell B. Stewart.

The room was beautiful with an elegant cake, a purple and gold tinsel backdrop and a tv with vintage old school Dark and Lovely commercials. When I say vintage, I mean from literally 20, 30 years ago. It was interesting to see how products were presented in commercials back then and all the techniques used to market a product to African-American people.

Later on in the evening  there was a  presentation with different hairstyle associated with certain periods in history. They had a Missy Elliott hairstyle, the afro and many other classic black hairstyles worn by women throughout the decades.

And there were gift bags with full sized products. One was a colouring system, I don’t colour my hair so I gave the colouring system to Tiffany, hairstylist of of StylesbyTiffanyDawn. But I do have beautiful coily curls so I was anxious to try the brand new Dark and Lovely Au Naturale Anti- Shrinkage Clumping Curl Clay Cleanser and the Au Naturale Anti- Shrinkage Clumping Curl Crème Gel.

The Dark and Lovely Au Naturale Anti- Shrinkage Clumping collection was on display at the 45th Anniversary celebration as the new products were launched that night. How exciting! Both products are infused with coconut and argan oil  to moisturize and smooths curls and coils. Also these products contain no parbens, no mineral oil and no petrolatum. From the list of ingredients alone, I was sure  this product would work and benefit the health of my hair while adding to my beauty. This stuff is good!

TIP: When you purchase a product read the directions and then do exactly what it says.

These products worked. Here is how I used them;

  •  I washed my hair with the Dark and Lovely Clumping Curl Clay Cleanser and it felt lovely in my hair. It did not strip my hair.
  • Then while my hair was soaking wet, I applied a dollop of the  Dark and Lovely Au Naturale Anti- Shrinkage Clumping Curl Crème Gel.
  •  The next day to refresh my hair, I spritzed my hair with water, fluffed it and was ready to go.

My curls were very defined. I have a mix of type 4B and 4C and my ringlets were soft,  dimensional and shiny. I added a bit of argan oil to add more shine. The highlight of this product is the elgongation of my curls

First of all the packaging is beautiful. The apricot, purple and pink colour of the bottles were stunning and the product inside was equally as amazing. I love the texture of the product. Second, the consistency of both products were thick and really coated my hair. The volume of product you receive was awesome and was enough for 4-5 applications. The fragrance is lovely and not loud. After day 2, my curls were still  decent and my hair was soft  and moisturized.

Would I purchase these products again? Yes. I could feel the nourishment in my hair and I loved the way my curls looked. My curls were not dried out or flaking. It is perfect that Dark and Lovely launched this product for their 45th Anniversary because it reflects the current wave of black beauty and it feels like it was designed just for us.

Happy 45h Anniversary Dark and Lovely and thank you for caring about my beauty.
