Diary Beth: ET… Not the Alien

Filed in: Dear Diary Beth

No, no, not ET come home! ET, Eric Thomas is one of the most innovative, influential and impactful speakers of the 21st century. Eric Thomas has been able to go beyond his disadvantaged ecosystem and reach a group of people who can relate to his story of struggle. Holding a PhD, Dr. Thomas prides himself on coming from an uneducated, broken background and now reaching higher heights of education, success and a beautiful family life. Football players, corporate leaders and students have all been inspired by ET’s Youtube videos, tweets and in person seminars.

I sat in the pew waiting to hear what he had to say. The room was packed and everyone was anxious. ET was coming to Toronto and even two words from him would be savoured by every ear in the room. We waited. The serviced was filled with great music, prayer and reflection. Great but where was ET?

Sadly ET didn’t show up in person but he did show up on Skype. The power of technology wins again but it was not the same. ET has this high energy and I wanted to feel it and see it in person. But today would not be the day. We had to settle for Skype but even though I was disappointed, I was locked in. I hung onto his every word and took these notes on his 10 rules for success. Number 5 and number 9 are my favorite.

If you put the hardwork in, you will reap the benefits.  There hasn’t been a day where I haven’t been giving the opportunity to work hard. After a few years of sorting my priorities and goals out, I made a vow to give my best in everything I do. When you give your best, your best comes back to you.

My heart holds many of my secrets. It also takes note of all my hurts and pains. When I speak, I like to share not only the great things in life but the hardships, obstacles and failures.  Well all fall but getting back up again is the most memorable part. It maybe hard to get back up but then you can share your story with someone else. Speak from the heart and touch someone’s life

 Which rule is your favorite?
