The John Paul Ataker show was my first show of the season. I hopped off a red eye flight, was picked up at the airport by JT Limousine taken to my apartment. I had less then two hours of get settled into my apartment and head to Skylight Clarkson for the show. I slipped on my slip dress and made it right on time for the beautiful glimmering John Paul Ataker Spring Summer 2018 show.

When I received the invitation to view the John Paul Ataker during NYFW I was delighted. I love sitting shows with more formal gowns and dresses. It is my expertise and personal favorite. I love streetstyle but don’t wear streetstyle very often well. Drama, volume and decadence is more my taste. John Paul Ataker is a designer who uses all of these techniques when creating collections for the woman who wants more.

I also have a deep, deep appreciation for craftsmanship and details ie. beading, fabric development and technique. I love a great  t-shirt and a pair of jeans, but a John Paul Ataker gown steals my heart.

I enjoyed the John Paul Ataker Spring Summer 2018 show from the front row and really took in the collection. I looked at every detail. The entire collection was showed in black, ivory and white which was a very great tactic to show the details of the clothing and the message of the collection. There were so many textures featured in each piece of clothing. My favorite fabric was the white lattice cut leather at the front of a ballgown. See  photo above.

The entire collection was inspired by the art of fishing, sailing ropes, knitting and weaving artisanship. The collection showcased the merging of different materials and techniques to create a certain look. My fav look was the black gown with the accordion pleated overlay. The skirt was large with a slim bodice. The accordion overlay was a big nod to the fishing theme and I felt like the dress was a seashell.

The shoes were designed by John Paul Ataker with metallic cords and ropes. The gold details on the booties were rope laces. The model’s makeup was barely there and promoted the  “ Natural is beautiful theme”. Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls graced the catwalk with fishing ropes tied into their hair which added a regal element to each and every look.

John Paul Ataker’s collection was coehesive, creative all while being colorless. The variety of themes and textures appealed to my senses and showed the power of combining fabrics with design. With the shine of the light the white gowns looked golden, the black hues looked like they were glowing and cream was like a pearl.

Thank you to the John Paul Ataker Team for having me at  the show.
