Memories of Japan

Filed in: Travel

Picture

Is it weird that I miss Japan? Since I left Japan, my mind has been filled with so many memories of the time that was spent there. It was truly a trip to remember for many reasons.

  1. This was my first trip to Asia
  2. It was the longest direct flight I have ever taken
  3. I was able to reunite with my high school friend Shavonne

I have been missing the cultured people, the subdued subway and the flirty spring weather. I am also sad to have missed cherry blossom season .

This outfit is ode to my time in Japan.

I was inspired to wear a lot of red on this trip.  It just felt right to wear red in Asia. To get rid of my Japan blues, I styled this very Japanese inspired outfit.

I made this skirt to wear in Japan, took it to Japan but never wore it. The fabric costs about $25 per yard. Once again above my $5-$10 per yard budget but it was important that a red skirt was made for this trip even if I didn’t get to wear it. My 10-day stay in Japan was very busy with meetings and enjoying the country. I hardly dressed up and rather emerged myself in Japanese culture and lifestyle. So this gorgeous red skirt was not worn but it had to make the trip… just in case.

I paired this full skirt with a Peter Pilotto for Target Cherry Blossom jersey top. I picked up this top from Net-a-Porter during the Peter Pilotto craze and literally it has been worn almost everyday since. Mixing prints is one of my fortes and though I planned to wear this skirt with a white cape from Lavish Alice, this Pilotto top grabbed my attention. It was the perfect compliment to the full skirt.

Even though the fabric of the skirt has flecks of silver, I love taking the risk of mixing metallics. Adding my gold Gucci slippers seemed like a good option to reflect the silver highlights in my skirt. I went a bit matchy-matchy with the gold belt but for some
reason they felt like the perfect combo. Gold belt. Gold shoes. And oh yeah, my gold vintage pin and my Harajuku heart pin that I picked up in Japan. While walking through the winding roads of Harajuku in Japan, I spotted this pin and I knew that it would be a great trinket to take back to Toronto as a keepsake of the district that Gwen Stefani made even more popular in the early 2000s.

My make-up was a nod to Japanese colours and style as well. I used Mac Ruby Woo on my lips mixed with MAC Lady Danger.  On my eyes I used a NYX Orange Eyeliner to create a distinct neon cateye.

Even though I am missing Japan, the power of fashion can take me back to a place that I loved, simply using colour, style and design.

Japan, my memories of you are dear to my heart.
