I walked into Skylight Clarkson Sq to attend the Naeem Khan show and the energy was high. I spotted one of my fav bloggers Jenny Cipoletti of Margo and Me, the notable Linda Fargo, Senior VP of Bergdorf Goodman and Insecure’s Yvonne Orji. I sat in my front row seat and read the designer’s notes. It was going to be great line up with a variety of silhouettes, shapes and textures. I was looking forward to the two piece pant sets.
“ It’s a collection in the spirit of the women I have met and the life I have travelled”- Naeem Khan
Naeem Khan is known for his bridal and ball gown designs. His final look was an ode to his legacy with the presentation of a metallic threadwork embroidered ball gown. The melaninated model walked slowly and consciously to the sound of Maya Angelou’s voice reciting her poem Human Family.
“We are more alike, my friends, than we are unalike.”- Maya Angelou
While the crowd of fashionables cleared the room, I sat in my seat and watched them leave. I was numb. The fashion and the social collided right before my eyes and I wanted to take it in. Deep. It was a moment.
The collection was centered on embroidered pieces, contrasting geometric shapes inserted into traditional gowns and bold red mermaid silhouettes. Exceptional. Ombre beaded fringe cocktail dresses. Floral coats with pant like OTK boots printed with matching textured coloured flowers by Christian Louboutin, offered a piece of Naeem Khan to any woman for any event. Cheetah print platforms and hand stitched silk roses, reminded the fashion world of the intricacy of Naeem Khan’s fashion legacy as well the true beauty of design and artisanal work”- Aquila Farrell on Naeem Khan Fall 2017
