Naeem Khan is not only a designer. He is a feeling. An Emotion. A Pulse.  From the first Naeem Khan show I attended in 2017, I realized that Naeem Khan shows are a continuous story. Every season is continued from the last by including design elements which are signature to Naeem Khan. As I sat in Spring Studios and witnessed the Naeem Khan Autumn/ Winter 2018 show during NYFW, all of my senses were heightened.

Sight
The collection displayed a new approach of evening wear by building evening wear looks using separates. Instead of the traditional gowns, Naeem Khan included jackets, tops, skirts and belts. I personally shy away from separates all together because styling them can be difficult. But the Naeem Khan collection was anchored on separates working together to create a sophisticated and vibrant look.

From detailed embroidery to the signature Naeem Khan beaded fringe to taffetta, bustiers and satin, separates were the foundation upon which these design elements were built. The theme of the “global woman” was seen in each intricate design and in the work of each person who embroidered the Naeem Khan pieces.

My favorite look was the emerald green beaded fringe straight skirt with a black jacket. With every step, each bead glistened and shimmered.  And as a peek into the Louboutin world you could see the red soles peeking out from each gown. I also loved seeing hoods featured on evening gowns.

This collection is perfect for a queen, a bride-to–be or a Nubian treasure. But it will also be a favorite to celebrities and women who want more than just a jacket to wear.

Audio
The soundtrack for the show was magnificient. While I walked into the show, I was captivated by recording of the voice of SZA singing Broken Clocks. During the show Madonna’s Frozen took me back  a few years and the deep bass hit my soul and became the perfect backdrop to the stunning clothing.

Touch
Even though we didn’t get to touch the clothes, you could feel them. Each piece was filled with texture, dimension and movement. As the models walked you could feel the weight of each piece, you could feel the thread and you could feel the bristles of the velvet. I wish I could have touched the pom-poms on this looks below. I felt like I was watching a parade in Peru. An course all of the OTK boots were highly embellished with crystals, flowers and beads.

Smell
What could I smell during a fashion show? Trust me there is a smell and it was the smell of excitement, royalty and elegance.

Taste
You could taste the emotion and could feel every step from the models who appeared to be over six feet tall with their Christian Louboutin pumps. I could also taste the fresh mint reviving me while trying not to faint because of the intense colors and fierceness of the models. Ha!

Yes this show was an experience.
Yes it was a gorgeous collection we will see on red carpets  globally.
Yes this collection will be worn by women who want to wear a piece of Naeem Khan history.

Naeem Khan you did it again.
Thank you for having me at the show.
Looking forward to next season.
