As a child,I admired charm bracelets but couldn’t find the right quality to compliment my youthful style. After being in business for only 10 years, Pandora has been able to offer quality and beauty in one. Many of my friends have Pandora bracelets and I have visited Pandora retail stores many times to pick up gifts. I am always amazed by the knowledge of the sales reps, the calmness of the room and variety pieces available.
On Monday May 16, 2016, I hopped in a UBER and arrived at Roy Thompson Hall. I was greeted by the Pandora welcome table at the Unique Lives  & Experiences women’s lecture series. I was anxious. Tonight, with the graciousness of Pandora Canada, I would meet and greet Sarah “ Fergie” Ferguson, the Duchess of York.

The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson is a woman I have admired since I was a child. Her red hair was fascinating to me and the fact that she was a real princess was even more fascinating. Sarah’s last visit to Toronto was 20 years prior and many of her friends and fans were present to welcome her back.

The high tea reception with the Duchess was a treat. While sipping on tea and eating scones, jam and clotted cream, we listened to the purposeful work Pandora is doing to join women together through the love for jewellery. The Duchess asked about the progress of women in Canada and was impressed with the level of women’s involved in government, boards and in the community.

We then headed inside the musical chambers of Roy Thompson Hall and sat in a room that is usually filled with music. Instead, it was filled with the voice of Sarah Ferguson. The Duchess stepped on stage in her Christian Louboutin red soles to match her radiant red hair, a navy double breasted blazer and matching navy skirt and in a room full of people she spoke directly to my heart.

Her story is a whirlwind of ups and downs, struggle and triumph but some way or the other she was able to end up in the midst of a place called happiness. Here is an uncommon fact about the Duchess, though divorced, she and her form husband Prince Andrew live together with their lovely daughters. Not typical but it works for them and is a hint to her willingness to put her family first.

The Duchess spoke about the horrific conditions in some of the children’s orphanages in Serra Leone, the high level of childhood cancer in Poland. Her lecture was followed by a question and answer period hosted by Bloomberg journalist and TV host Danielle Bochove.

I didn’t want the evening to end. I didn’t want the Duchess to leave but she had to catch a flight that night back to the UK. It is comforting to know that the Duchess will be leaving a piece of herself in Toronto by introducing her dessert teas  in the Canadian market with proceeds going to the women of the Congo.

Pairing both Pandora and the Duchess was an excellent idea because it was the perfect fairytale princess with a brand that presents itself as royalty. Pandora was gracious enough to provide some giveaways to the women in attendance and guess what, I won. But I want you to win too.
