Places To Eat in San Francisco

It seems like my iTravel posts all focus about what I ate. When travelling I make an effort try to eat new fun foods that I won’t usually eat in Toronto. This helps me maintain my weight and quenches my food cravings. So I have a rule, I only eat burgers when I am not in Toronto and I only eat dessert when I am not in Toronto. The majority of the time it works and has helped me control my eating.

Enough about controlled eating, I could go on and on about portion control because my thesis was all about portion control and calorie counting. In the recent weeks, I have been back and forth between San Francisco and Toronto. With San Francisco being one of the food hubs of the world, these trips are always full of food excurisions leading to memorable, decadent food experiences. I enjoyed a variety of treats and eats while roaming the city. There is such a variety of food options and usually they are the best of the best vendors. Here’s my must visit restaurants and cafes:
Tartine- Be prepared to line up… anytime… of the… day. There is always a line at Tartine but it is so worth it. It is a little café shop with seating indoors and outdoors. The line wraps around the block because the croissants are so flaky.  I ordered a tray load of goodies including their turkey open faced sandwich, savory scones and a few croissants. To accompany these treats, I sipped on hot chocolate and coffee. Worth the line. Must go.

Farina– Italian food can be blah at times.  Because either you make it at home and you don’t experience the authentic flavors. But Farina changed my perspective on Italian food. The pesto was full of flavor and the homemade fresh pasta definitely made a difference. The Focaccia was made in house, real time, covered with parm and salt.  The server took our order and shared stories of visiting Toronto and nights filled with too much wine. The quiet ambiance was the right balance to the boastful flavor of the food.

Mac Daddy-At first you maybe confused by it’s size. This restaurant literally has 10 bar stools. However, it is always packed with hardly enough space for the server to bring your food. The menu is based on mac and cheese. You can add your favorite meat ( in my case, braised beef short ribs), cheese ( I took out the blue cheese and added parmesan instead) and veggies on the side or mixed in ( The roasted brocollini was full of flavor and made me feel a bit more healthy). The servings are generous. It feels good to eat dinner one night and have some leftover for lunch. We reheated our meals the following day, just as the chef said( reheat in the oven, 250 degrees) and it was perfect.

Jersey Fine Foods Pizza- Pizza is my favorite food. I think you all know that already.  But when I say that this pizza was the best pizza I have ever experienced, I am serious. The pizza was huge and loaded with toppings. The actual restaurant was quiet yet still buzzing with happy staff placing orders for hungry patrons. There are a variety of pizzas on the menu so select the one you like because you can’t  lose. If you like pasta, try the pasta.  The servings are generous and tasty.

There are many more options for food in San Francisco and as I transition into my new life, in a new city, I am ready for all of the food adventures.
If you visit San Francisco and try any of these places out, let me know. I would love to hear if you liked the city and I know you will love the food.
