Merry Christmas from my family to yours. I was in Toronto for five days and I was able to get all 10 of my family members together for a holiday photoshoot. I hired a professional photographer for 1 hour and received over 150 high quality photos. Thinking of doing a family photoshoot?
Here are simple tips for a successful Family Holiday shoot.
Send A Calendar Invite
Make sure everyone knows exactly where and when you the whole crew is meeting up. Send them a calendar invite so they don’t forget. Also schedule a reminder 1 hour before just in case.
Plan Your Shots Ahead Of Time
Okay. If there is one tip I could give you this season it would be this one. Plan exactly what shots you want taken during the shoot. Plan it down to the combination of people you want in the shot, how many shots and if you have inspo photos send them to the photographer before hand. My group had 10 people in it and to manage the group I mapped out list of shots and groups ie. all women, all men, all siblings, me with my Mom, my family, my in laws etc
Hire A Photographer
I really wanted professional photos and decided to hire a photographer. Here is his contact BUT I could have shot these photos myself using this. I have worked with Lenzart Photography many times. He is our family photographer, punctual and doesn’t take forever to edit your photos. A photographer can help you edit the photos faster and takes the time to select the best photos. The only difference when shooting the photos yourself is the price honestly.
Find A Central Location
You have sent the calendar invite but make sure you have a location where everyone can meet. I initially booked time at a studio but because of varying schedules not everyone could meet there. UGHH! I kept it simple and shot our photos at home because it was the perfect location for everyone.
Select A Color Scheme
This saves a lot of time because everyone knows exactly what they have to wear. It takes the guessing game out of how the photos will look and helps the photos look more uniformed. It feels horrible when looking at the photo reel and not being satisfied with the styling or the color story simply because there was no color scheme. I selected red and black because it was simple and aligned with the holiday theme.
